YOUNG BEGINNERS

INTRODUCE YOUR CHILD TO THE JOYS OF MAKING MUSIC WITH OUR STRUCTURED, FUN & EASY TO USE GUITAR METHOD.

PROGRAMME INFO

Young Beginners

Your child will be shown everything they need to know to get started on their guitar-playing journey.

We start with 5 x 30 minute private lessons, where we’ll show you and your child how our method works, get them started and help you set up a practice routine at home.  You’ll receive all learning materials your child will need for the Young Beginner course at their first lesson.

We are currently offering the first 5 lessons plus learning materials at a special rate of just £79.

After this, they’ll be ready to start attending our small group classes (max. 5 students) so that they can continue their learning alongside other children of a similar age & level.  We encourage all students to learn in small groups as it has been proven to be the most effective way to learn.

  • Designed specifically for children aged 4-6
  • Our structured method will give them a sense of progress & accomplishment
  • All our teachers are trained & DBS checked
  • Support for parents so you can help your child practice at home

HOW DOES IT WORK?

  • Structured Method – Our Young Beginner course is intended as a gentle introduction to guitar for young children.  Incorporating all the essential skills they will need to get started, they’ll have the basics down in no time and will soon be playing recognisable songs and melodies.
  • Checklists & Rewards – The Young Beginner course includes checklists so that you’ll know exactly what your child needs to focus on next, with rewards given when they reach certain milestones.  This helps to keep them engaged in the learning process.  On completion of our Young Beginner course, your child will receive a certificate & be ready to move up to the next level.
  • Additional Resources – We provide a range of exciting resources including colouring pages, reward charts & activity sheets, designed to make practice fun & help your child stay motivated to continue their learning.
  • Parent Support – We provide support to parents, including a Parent Guide and useful blog posts so that you can help your child practice at home.  You will need to supervise your child’s practice, especially in the early days, and in turn we will help you to make practice sessions a fun and positive experience for your child.

    FAQ’s

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO LEARN GUITAR?

Learning guitar is a little more challenging for younger children then it is for the rest of us. This is because they are still developing fine motor skills, which are needed to coordinate both hands at the same time (incidentally, this is why many guitar teachers will not teach children of this age).  For this reason, it is important to take it slow and allow them time to explore the instrument and music in general.  Their introduction to guitar should be a fun experience, setting them up with the building blocks for what will hopefully become a life-long skill.

That said, we do encourage regular practice from all our students, including Young Beginners.  If you practice with them for just 10 minutes a day, you can expect to complete the Young Beginner course in just a few months and be ready to move up to the next level.

WHAT TYPE OF GUITAR SHOULD WE BUY?

Your child will need their own guitar to participate in our programme.  For a child aged 4–6, you will need a 1/4 size classical guitar.  Classical guitars look similar to acoustic guitars but have nylon strings, which are softer on a child’s fingertips.  Our best advice is to buy from a local music shop, rather than buy online, so that you know you will be getting an instrument appropriate for your child’s age & size.  Please contact us if you’d like more information.

    HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

We start all students on our 5 Week Intro Course, which consists of 5 x 30 minute weekly private lessons.  Here, we’ll show you and your child how our method works, get them started and help you set up a practice routine at home.  You’ll receive all learning materials your child will need for the Young Beginner course at their first lesson.

    DO YOU DO IN-HOME LESSONS?

We are unable to come to your home & teach your child.  All lessons take place at our central Croydon location above.

HOW MUCH SHOULD MY CHILD PRACTICE?

Young children often enjoy the lessons but not the practice, especially if they see it as a chore.

In order to get results & see some progress, however, your child will need to practice regularly.  For young children, we recommend just 10 minutes a day, 5 days a week.  We encourage parents to establish a practice routine as quickly as possible & be present & engaged.

We have lots of information to help parents make their child’s practice fun & engaging, as regular practice is essential to your child’s continued progress.

    DO YOU TEACH GRADES?

The method we use will introduce your child to all the fundamental elements covered in guitar grades & because of the step by step way in which it is laid out, is actually more effective than grades for getting these core skills down.

Once students finish our own method, they will have all the skills in place to be able to quickly and easily study for grade exams.  Please ask us for more information if this is something you would like your child to do.

My name is Vicki Workman and, here at Croydon Guitar Tuition, my teachers and I have helped many young children get started on guitar.  Guitar is a sociable instrument and your child will have the most fun and make the most progress learning with others.  Many of our current students started with us at just 5 or 6 years old and now, as teenagers, are at grade 7-8 standard and regularly jam together and even form bands!  We encourage collaboration, not just with other guitar players but also with other musicians, and our students get regular opportunities to perform at special events run by us and in the wider Croydon music community.

After all, this is what playing guitar should be all about!

Learning guitar from a young age will nurture a life-long love of music in your child and give them a fun and rewarding skill which will stay with them throughout their life.  We look forward to welcoming them into our community of dedicated guitar players 🙂
